Launching 42ByteLabs: Building the Future of Secure Development
Today marks the official launch of 42ByteLabs, a new open-source initiative focused on building security-first developer tools and libraries for the Rust ecosystem and beyond.

Launching 42ByteLabs
Today, we’re excited to announce the official launch of 42ByteLabs — a new open-source initiative dedicated to building security-first developer tools and libraries that developers can trust.
Our Mission
At 42ByteLabs, we believe that security shouldn’t be an afterthought. Every tool we build is designed with security as the foundation, not a feature bolted on later. We’re committed to:
- Security First: Building secure software from the ground up with best practices, vulnerability scanning, and supply chain protection
- Developer Experience: Creating tools with intuitive APIs, comprehensive documentation, and helpful error messages
- Open Source: Making all our projects freely available to the community
- Type Safety: Leveraging strong type systems to catch errors at compile time
- Production Ready: Battle-tested code with comprehensive testing and CI/CD pipelines
Why Now?
The software supply chain has never been more critical or more vulnerable. From Log4Shell to countless other CVEs, developers need better tools to understand and secure their dependencies. We’ve seen proprietary solutions charge thousands of dollars for basic security features that should be freely available to everyone.
42ByteLabs was created to change that.
What We’re Building
We’re focused on creating open-source developer tools and libraries that prioritize:
- Security by design - Not as an afterthought
- Type safety - Catching errors before they reach production
- Great documentation - Making powerful tools accessible
- Community driven - Building what developers actually need
Our projects span multiple areas including database tools, container security, CI/CD automation, and GitHub integrations. Each project is built with Rust for performance, safety, and reliability.
What’s Next?
This is just the beginning. We’re building a suite of tools that will help developers ship secure software faster. We’re also building a community of developers who care about security, type safety, and great developer experience.
Get Involved
We’re open source, and we welcome contributions:
